Class sessions in Polytechnic begin from Monday to Friday and usually start at 8.15 am and end at 4.15 pm. Time-off is between 1.15 pm and 2.15 pm. Nevertheless, students are required to refer to the timetable for lectures, practicals, and tutorials according to the courses they are in. Students also are needed to check with the lecturers for any unexpected changes regarding their classes- extra classes or change of venue.
Students’ attendance is compulsory for all activities like lectures, practical (laboratory/ workshop), tutorials, co-curricular and other activities related to academic programs.
Students who are not attending classes for more than 3 days in a row without any Head of Department’s permission or any solid reasons, can be terminated from polytechnic. Students can also be terminated from their study due to disciplinary actions, lack of interest in studies, or low examination achievement that fails to reach the minimum target set by the Examination Unit in the Polytechnic system.
Students who wish to quit or defer their studies for any particular reason can do so by completing the quit/ deferment of studies form. However, students should refer to their academic advisor prior to quitting/deferment of studies.
Every student is compulsory to register for their courses upon the opening of every semester. Course registration must be done after having a discussion with their appointed academic advisor. Students are required to use the course registration form provided and submit it to their academic advisor. Registration after the dateline is prohibited.
Following the registration, students are eligible to terminate or add the course. Termination or addition of courses can be made depending on the reasons stated and must be verified by the Head of Department. Once approved, students may proceed by filling up the form and submitting it to their academic advisor on the set date.
Students are compulsory to attend all lectures. The prerequisite for students to sit for the examination (courses with final examination) is to fulfill 80% of the attendance in the final semester. A show-cause letter must be presented to the course lecturer in case the students are unable to attend the scheduled classes. Failure to carry out the responsibility could effect in detaining the student from sitting for the examination in the final semester.
Apart from lectures, practical works both in labs and workshops are essential as a closure to a firm and deeper understanding for the students in the courses they select.
The grading system by Polytechnic is based on a quantitative performance evaluation of students in a course and is known as Grade Point System. According to the Grade Point System, the score or point of a course will be taken to set the Grade Point Average (GPA) and the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). The GPA shows the students’ performance for a particular semester while the CGPA shows the achievement of a student in a number of semesters until the present.
