Overview

Polytechnic Seberang Perai was established on 1st September 1998 at the Jalan Permatang Pauh, Pulau Pinang.This campus was built on an area of 100 acres. PSP is located in a rapidly growing industrial area and it takes about 30 minutes to reach here from Georgetown, Pulau Pinang.

This polytechnic is the 10th polytechnic being set up in Malaysia in line with the government policy to produce semi-professional workers in order to achieve the Malaysia 2020 Vision. PSP has been officially launched on 27 November 1999 by former 4th Malaysia Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.

PSP offers full-time and part-time programs for the Diploma level in the field of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Commerce, and Information Technology.

 

Unit of Maintenance and Development

The Maintenance and Development Unit plays a significant role in upgrading the infrastructure of the Polytechnic. Continuous efforts are made to provide a conducive and positive environment. Among the renovation works carried out successfully are as follow:-

  • Upgrading the lobby and the washroom at the main hall (Dewan Sri Mutiara).
  • Upgrading the conference room.
  • Upgrading washroom and prayer rooms at the Commerce Department.
  • Upgrading The steel barriers along the corridor at the third and the fourth level of the hall of residence blocks.
  • Replacing the broken sewage pipes at the waste treatment plant.
  • Building a multi-purpose square.
  • Upgrading the central store.
  • Upgrading the washrooms, prayer rooms, and offices of the Administrative Block
  • Renovating the Training and Continuing Education building
  • Renovating the Deputy Director's (Academic Support) office
  • Upgrading the halls of residence's office
  • Upgrading the server room
  • Renovating the store at the library/UIDM building for the storage of graduation robes
  • Fixing fans at the staff quarters
  • Fixing the doors and windows grills at the staff quarters
  • Constructing a grandstand at the hockey field
It also carries out maintenance works wherever necessary, which covers the following:- 
 
  • Air conditioning units 
  • Fire prevention system
  • Waste treatment facility
  • Grease trap
  • Cafeteria kitchen equipment
  • Punch card machine
  • Water cooler dispensers
  • Servicing and calibration of sub-station
  • Servicing of pumps and control  panel of main water tank
  • Servicing of road/street lights, roller shutter doors
  • Cleaning of main water tanks and hotel's water supply tanks
  • Servicing of switchboards and PABX telephone system

Unit for Instructional Development and Multimedia (UIDM)

The Instructional Development and Multimedia Unit, formerly known as the Multimedia and Resource Centre, is led by the Unit Head and assisted by two Multimedia and Resource Officers (MARO). An Assistant Engineer, a Photographer, an Audio/Video Editor, and a Junior General Assistant also work in the unit.

The center includes a graphic studio (which also serves as an analog and digital audio-video editing and recording studio), a mini archive/meeting room, a seminar room with a 75-seat capacity and audio-visual facilities, a photography room with a dark room for photograph processing, a multi-purpose studio, and a printing room with medium-scale printing facilities.

The facilities available are:

1. Graphics studio (also serves as an analog and digital audio-video editing and recording studio).
2. A mini archive cum meeting room.
3. A 75 -seat seminar room equipped with audio-visual facilities.
4. Photography room that includes a dark room for photo processing.
5. A multi-purpose studio.
6. Printing room equipped with medium-scale printing facilities.

Among the services provided by the center are:

1. Provide audio-visual equipment.
2. Video production Video editing (analog and digital).
3. Development of multimedia applications.
4. Graphic report.
5. Ease of publication and printing of print media.
6. Facilities for presentations and seminars.
7. Mini archive (videotapes / VCD / DVD of events recorded at the Polytechnic and printed publications are stored here).
8. PSP Infochannle/TV Broadcasting.
